Sunshine Coast Restack & Retune; No Simulcast

The Sunshine Coast TV frequencies are changing. All Televisions need to be retuned.

 DULONG & TEWANTIN/NOOSA

The Nambour Coverage Area

The Television channels from the Dulong Transmitter (Nambour) and the Tewantin/Nambour transmitter will be changing on Wednesday 9th of July, and this will mean that every television (with antennas facing towards this transmitter) will need to be re-tuned after this time. Unfortunately it has been stated that there will be no simulcast of the channels (repeating the same channel on both frequencies for a period of time to allow for retuning) and for this reason, most of the Sunshine Coast will be advised to retune their own television. This should be completed as soon the possible after the channels disappear (you may have to wait some time for the switchover to take place and the new frequencies to be activated).

BALD KNOB

For those who live in the Southern parts of the Sunshine Coast (Facing towards the Bald Knob transmitter in Landsborough) the second change will take place over two days a week apart. The first change will be the Brisbane channels, which are only received by the southern half of the Sunshine Coast only, This will happen on Tuesday 15th July, and the local channels will be Restacked on the 22nd of July.

It is our advice to lose the Brisbane channels after the 15th July and just watch the local channels until they disappear too after the 22nd of July. Then you can retune and this means you only have to retune your television once.

INSTRUCTIONS

Instructions on how to tune your TV will be found in your TV manual. For all those who are able, we suggest you read that manual and attempt to retune your own TV after this Restack has been completed.

ANTENNA INFORMATION

The good news is that there is no need to change your antenna in most situations, as we continue to use the UHF frequency as we have before. If you have poor reception before the Restack, then you will continue to have poor reception and this antenna system will need to be looked at. Please call 1800 588 688 to discuss a booking time. retune antenna umx18

BACKGROUND INFORMATION The reason for this change, is actually a good thing, as it brings Australia inline with the rest of the world. Currently, our 4G network is up around 2100mhz, whereas the rest of the world (USA/EUROPE) have their 4G network operating on the 700mhz-800mhz range. This 700-800mhz range is currently being used throughout regional Australia for local TV channels (on the Sunshine Coast our ABC, local 7 and Win9 for example are all currently located here). After the Restack and Retune, the government will then sell these frequencies to the phone companies, and they will then move the 4G network down to these lower frequencies. This will, in the long run, make electronics cheaper by utilising the same technologies as the USA and other countries that are creating these. So in summary, it is a good thing that the Restack and Retune is happening, it will make our electronics life easier going forward.

LG 100 inch Laser TV | What is Laser TV?

It’s exciting, it’s in Australia and it is HUGE!

The product’s full name is the LG Laser DLP Display. Essentially, it uses technology called ultra-short throw which grabs the image and projects it onto the screen within 55cm, rather than from a projector at the back of a room.

The image is projected through 10 spherical lenses before passing it through an aspherical concave mirror to be thrown onto the display screen itself. It’s a 100-inch full-HD 1080p image, chucked from a projector which sits at the base of the black, anti-contrast, anti-glare screen.

How Does Laser TV Work?

The Screen itself is slick and stylish, and is mounted to the wall itself.

The actual projector will sit on your cabinet in front of the screen, and is attached to a 1TB Twin HD Recorder/Bluray Player (amazing on its own!). Connect any other devices you wish into this Twin Tuner Recorder, then sit back and enjoy!

The compact projector component is very stylish!

Feature Packed

Very impressive 100 inch screen; the size is the same as four 50″ Plasmas stacked together!

The lamp is also considerably impressive: with other projectors, you’d need to replace it every couple of years. LG promises that the lamp in the DLP Laser Display will go for 25,000 hours. That’s five hours per day for 13 years. Not bad at all.

The Laser TV screen that the projector throws the image onto is actually made from anti-glare material, which means that you won’t need to dim the lights entirely to have a high-contrast viewing experience. The screen is also black rather than silver to help dissipate light reflection when viewing. The screen also has a tiny bezel that disappears into the background when the images play.

The Price?

Bundled with a 1TB Twin Tuner Recorder, this package is complete for less than $8949 (considerably less than the $10,000+ you can expect to pay for a similar sized Plasma).

Final Remarks

If you are looking for a super large screen but which works just like a normal television (with easy remote controls and connectivity) then this LG Laser is exactly right for you. The Twin Tuner becomes your connection HUB; with 3 HDMI inputs, you can connect your laptop, your Foxtel and the kids Playstation 4.

Installation is considerably less than an actual projector with no cables required to be installed inside the wall; the screen is completely separate from the devices that do all the work. It’s plug and play (with a little training on how to get the most out of it all).

The Full HD 1080p resolution is excellent (DLP technology is a smooth image, and although it’s not 4K, it is exceptional quality for a 100″ screen. Sport, movies, games and TV will all be worthy of a ‘show-off’ session to your mates!

Lastly, this picture is huge! Sit back and enjoy cinema size and quality in your very own lounge room!
